William Li on cancer inhibiting substances
William Li gave this great TED talk in 2010 where he explained the possibilities of treating cancer with angiogenesis inhibiting medicine. Angiogenic inhibitors are substances that stop the unnatural growth of blood vessels in the human body, which might help stop the growth of cancer tumors that rely on growing small blood vessels for nutrition.
Li has measured the anti-angiogenic effects of several foods and noticed that for example garlic, lemon, strawberries and tofu are powerful substances against angiogenesis. The interesting part is where he describes the effects of two types of tea - both of them powerful anti-angiogenetic agents - and comes to conclude that when combined they have a higher angiogenesis inhibiting power than either tea alone. Food synergy!
A great speech - full of interesting information and cutting edge science.
